Now that all the technical stuff is out of the way, I’ll introduce the author I am hosting on this hunt.

Amy writes contemporary romance full of humor and heart. Her latest are two companion novels about baseball players and the girls who don’t want to fall for them: ANNOUNCING TROUBLE and HOW TO QUIT YOUR CRUSH. Check out

www.amydominy.com for more on all of Amy’s books and how to connect online.

Now that we know a little about Amy, here is the book she’s featuring!

Mai Senn knows Anthony Adams is no good for her—no matter how hard she might crush on him.

Good thing Anthony’s got the perfect plan: two weeks to prove just how not good they are together. Whoever can come up with the worst date—something the other will seriously hate, proving how incompatible they truly are—wins.

It’s all meant to help them finally crush their crushes. But it wasn’t supposed to be so hot. Or so fun. And when Mai’s future becomes at stake, will she be able to do the right thing and quit Anthony forever?

But wait…there is MORE goodness about her fantastic book! For Amy’s exclusive content, you get a deleted scene and another opportunity… keep reading.

Hey! Thanks for joining the YASH hunt and stopping by. So glad you’re here!

YASH is the coolest isn’t it? Free books, awesome authors to meet (like Elle who’s hosting me), and freebees like never-before-read scenes.

I’ve got one of those for you right now!

In How to Quit Your Crush Mai and Anthony have plenty of chemistry but not a lot in common. They decide to prove how wrong they are for each other by planning dates the other person will hate.

And oh, did I have fun writing those dates. J

In fact, I wrote a few too many of them and not every date ended up in the book. This is one that I had to cut, but also one that I still love.

I hope you’ll love it, too!

The only other thing you need to know: Mai created a list of rules and #5 is NO KISSING. (Yeah, that one isn’t going to last.) 😉

OH—and be sure to keep scrolling after the scene for more information about a separate giveaway on my website along with the link to enter.

Never Before Read Scene from HOW TO QUIT YOUR CRUSH

“This is it. This is all we do?” Her head tilts my way. She’s lying in the intertube, a wet towel acting as a buffer against the hot rubber. Her arms are stretched across the tube, her feet propped up on the other side. She’s somehow managing to look graceful.

She’s also beautiful. I’ve seen bathing suits that aren’t more than a couple of strings and triangles of fabric but Mai in a white tank and loose black swim shorts is the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen. Her toes are polished. Red. It makes me think of her lipstick. Her lips. I’d like to break Rule 5, but it’s also nice just being here with her.

“This is it.”

She dangles her fingers in the cool murky water of Saguaro Lake. We shuttled to a spot I know and I got the tubes ready along with a floating cooler I’ve tied to mine. Now, the slow current will take us down to the spot where we rented the tubes and I parked the car.

“It’s not very fast, Anthony.”

“No, it isn’t Mai.”

“It must take all day.”

“Half a day, anyway.”

“And we just lie here? Like this?”

“We do.”

“All this sun isn’t healthy.”

“We have sunscreen on.”

“It’ll wash off.”

“I brought more.”

“Is that what’s in the cooler?”

“And bottles of water.” I pop it open.

She gasps. “And Cheetos.”

I lie back, smiling.

“You do have some redeeming qualities.”

I spin my tube just enough that I can reach hers. I pull myself closer and slide my fingers into hers.”

Again, her head tilts. Behind her sunglasses I can’t see her eyes, but I can read her smile. “I’m just holding your hand so you don’t get washed away by a huge wave.”

She looks around at the completely calm water, the smooth, gentle flow like bath water. “Right.” She lays back. “It does look dangerous.” But she winds her fingers in more closely.

Something feels different today though I’m not sure what. Maybe because we don’t have a clock ticking before the library closes. Maybe because it feels like a different world with only the two of us. Maybe because I’m going to be leaving soon and so is she.

Deeper feelings are bubbling up and I can’t help when my voice lowers, turns serious. “You ever get tired of it—of always striving to get somewhere else?”

“Sometimes. But not enough to change. There’s always a path laid out. College. My doctorate. A profession.”

“And someone like Grant Ellison?”

“And someone like Grant Ellison.” Her gaze lifts to mine, not a sliver of apology in them. “This is me. This is who I am, Anthony. I don’t wander off the path. I follow the road that’s already been paved. I like that. It’s safer.”

I shake my head, a familiar lump filling my throat. “We’re never safe. That’s a lie we tell ourselves when we make plans.”

“You mean your dad?” Mai adjusts her feet, and I move to let her go, but she stops me. “No don’t.”

So I slide a hand around her ankles. She’s smooth and soft everywhere, but also so strong in so many ways. It makes me want to know her more, not less. “He liked plans, too. Didn’t keep him from getting prostate cancer.”

“I’m sorry,” she says softly.

I shrug. “I don’t see the point in making all those plans. Well. Except maybe a few.” I lighten the mood with a smile.

She smiles back. “Oh yeah? What kind?”

“Like kissing a beautiful girl floating on the river with sunlight in her hair.”

“Anthony.” She sighs. “This is not helpful. You need to be more annoying.”

“Yeah, I will,” I say. I lean closer. “I’ll start by breaking Rule 5.”

And I kiss her.

  1. Honestly my favorite bookish villain is a toss up (I’m sorry! I tend to gravitate to the villains of stories). Anyways its between The Darkling (Grishaverse – Leigh Bardugo) and Maven Calore (Red Queen series – Victoria Aveyard). I’d add Victor Vale from Vicious (VE Schwab), but in my mind I don’t see him as a villain.

  2. Favorite bookish villain of all time — Maven from Red Queen series.
Thank you for taking part in YASH. I wish this weren’t the last one.
I missed the Rafflecopter. Probably not by much. (It’s 1:30pm Eastern on Sunday). Just not fast enough.

You Beneath Your Skin By Damyanti Biswas has been the best book I’ve read in 2020 so far.
I also really enjoyed Van Helsing Academy by Stacey O’Neale and Not Guilty by C. Lee McKenzie.
I’m looking forward to the book When Shadows Walk by Michael Mersault. I’m currently reading Midnight Sun.
I’m super excited about the YA query contest Pass or Pages at Operation Awesome this October.
